Volunteering and work experience

Volunteering and work experience

Volunteering

There are a range of volunteer roles at the Scott Polar Research Institute, particularly in our Museum, Archives and Picture Library. Typical roles include:

  • Front of house: welcoming museum visitors, answering basic queries, supporting younger visitors to access our museum trails, operating the till and keeping the shop tidy.
  • Education events: supporting our wide range of public facing events by meeting and greeting attendees, helping with set-up and break down, or sharing activities with visitors.
  • Cataloguing: helping our collections cataloguing processes by, for example, typing up hand written descriptions of collections, undertaking small research projects or assisting with measuring and photographing collections.

When we have collections volunteer roles available they are advertised on the main Cambridge University Museums website, where you can also find information about volunteering in other University of Cambridge museums.

Work experience

We offer a small number of work experience placements each year through the University of Cambridge Museums.
