Activities: The fundamental mission of DGGU's Greenland Geoscience Unit is to establish the broad geological basis for the exploration and development of Greenland's mineral resources embracing minerals, petroleum, gas, coal and hydropower. Carries out geological, geophysical, geochemical and glaciological studies under the authority of the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The GREENMIN (Greenland Mineralisation Data Bank) holds data on all known economic mineral localities. DGGU also holds comprehensive data archives for seismic studies, well logs and a core archive. The Polar Library holds collections from the Department of Eskimology and Arctic Studies of the University of Copenhagen and from the Arctic Institute. The library is managed by the University of Copenhagen, and also includes the materials from the former Danish Polar Center.
The collections comprise app. 35.000 items, incl. 26.000 monographs, 9.000 pamphlets, 3.000 analytical entries, and 750 periodicals of which 100 are current. The majority of the collection is classified with UDC and all items are searchable in the university library's database.

The library covers, in all languages, the major subject fields of the Arctic and to some extent the Antarctic. Particularly comprehensive is the material on Greenland, including one of the first descriptions of Greenland from the 17th century as well as the latest reports on politics, social conditions, education, mineral and oil resources, archaeological discoveries, etc.
