
Regulations
The formal course regulations are as follows:
The scheme of examination for the one-year course of study in Polar Studies for the degree of Master of Philosophy shall consist of:
(a) a dissertation, of not more than 20,000 words in length, excluding footnotes, tables, appendices, and list of references, on a subject approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography, and to be submitted at a date to be determined by them;
and
(b) three essays, each of about 4,000 words in length, the first chosen from a list of topics, and the second and third on topics chosen by the candidate, with the approval of the Degree Committee.
The examination may include, at the discretion of the Examiners, an oral examination on the dissertation and the essays and on the general field of knowledge within which they fall.
