	Ice cliffs at the seaward margin of the Courtauld Glacier, East Greenland Record: P2006/1/1 The ice cliffs at the seaward margin of the heavily-crevassed Courtauld Glacier, East Greenland, rise about 40 m above the sea-surface. The dark debris bands, or medial moraines, on the ice surface are produced from rockfall onto the glacier as ice flows past the surrounding mountains.

	Ice cliffs, Courtauld Fjord, East Greenland Record: P2006/1/2 Fractured ice cliffs are reflected in the still waters of Courtauld Fjord, East Greenland. The tide line at the base of the ice cliffs indicates that the glacier is not afloat, but is grounded on the floor of the 200 m-deep fjord.
	Tabular iceberg, Dallmann Bay, Antarctic Peninsula Record: P2006/1/20 Tabular iceberg in Dallmann Bay on the Antarctic Peninsula. The release or calving of icebergs is one of the main ways in which mass is lost from ice sheets. This iceberg is about 500 m long and has a submerged keel of several hundred metres.
	Tabular iceberg at sunset, Amundsen Sea, West Antarctica Record: P2006/1/21 A large tabular iceberg surrounded by fog and sea ice at sunset in the Amundsen Sea, West Antarctica. Icebergs such as this one, and those on the horizon, can be up to 10 or 20 kilometres in length and have underwater keels between 300 and 500 m deep. They drift largely in response to ocean currents because of their deep keels.

Sea-ice floes are formed from the freezing of sea water during winter and are only a few metres in thickness. The iceberg is about 40 m in above-water height and is made up of glacier ice.

	Rock pinnacle near Cape Renaud, above Lemaire Channel, Antarctica Record: P2006/1/25 Ice covers most of the 14 million km2 of the Antarctic continent, even accumulating at the top of a rock pinnacle near Cape Renaud, which rises over 700 m above Lemaire Channel, Antarctica.

Its historic building houses research laboratories, a world-renowned polar library, and fine archival collections of polar photographs, artworks and artefacts. Its Museum makes many of these items, along with displays of current polar-research work by Institute staff, accessible to the public. The image shows a detail of the frieze on the front elevation of the Museum building, including the sculpture bust of Robert Falcon Scott by his wife, sculptress Kathleen Scott.
