Kevin J. Edwards MA, PhD, DSc, FRGS, FSA, FSAScot, FRSE, MAE

Emeritus Professor in Physical Geography, Institute Associate, Life Member Clare Hall

Kevin Edwards is a Quaternary palaeoecologist and environmental archaeologist specialising in palynology (pollen analysis). Following many years researching the long-term environments and prehistoric landscapes of Britain and Ireland, he devoted much of the last two decades to directing large-scale research projects in the North Atlantic region. These multidisciplinary and international investigations have concentrated on Norse/Viking Age human-environment interactions in such locations as Shetland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland. In addition, he has been involved in forensic palynology and in aspects of the history of science.

Biography

Kevin was made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1999, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2002 and a member of Academia Europaea in 2012. He was the 133rd Rhind Lecturer (Society of Antiquaries of Scotland/Royal Society of Edinburgh) for 2012.
