W.R. Meyrick was born in 1880 in Lyttelton, New Zealand. He joined the British Antarctic Expedition 1907-09 (Nimrod) for the second half of the expedition, signing on in August 1908, three months before Nimrod left Lyttelton. He was one of two trimmers (responsible for transporting coal to the firemen and keeping the coal stores balances) on board ship.
