Cyril Longhurst was born in 1879. He served as secretary to the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-04 (Discovery), led by Robert Falcon Scott. After the expedition, he served as Assistant Secretary of the Committee of Imperial Defence. He was awarded the C.B. (Companion of the Order of the Bath) in 1917 and died on 22 April 1948. He is commemorated in the Antarctic by Mount Longhurst (79°26' S 157°18' E) and Longhurst Plateau (Longhurst Plateau).
