A sextant (seven and a quarter inch radius) with four spare telescopes, a spare lens and a spirit level, in a wooden case. Inside the lid of the case is a National Physical Laboratory paper 'Certificate of Examination' of the sextant, dated June 1908.

Physical description:

sextant: A seven and a quarter inch radius sextant, with (from left to right) three circular shade glasses, a rectangular horizon mirror, four square shade lenses, a rectangular index mirror, and two circular lenses. It has a wooden handle, and three metal feet.

case and attachments: A wooden case with a hinged lid (single hinge), and a hook latch on either side of the box. There is a lock and a metal carrying handle on the front of the case. Inside the lid of the case is a paper 'Certificate of Examination' of the sextant, dated June 1908. The case is fitted with wooden blocks covered with green baize to hold the contents in place and contains four assorted telescopes and parts of telescopes, an extra lens and a curved spirit level with a metal bracket.
