A 2008 Gold Proof €100 Collector Coin. Featuring Antarctic Explorers Ernest Shackleton and Tom Crean to Commemorate `The International Polar Year. In original wooden box, outer cardboard box and with certificate.

Physical description:

coin: A gold proof circular coin, 28mm in diameter, with reeded edge encased in a plastic coin capsule. Designed by Thomas Ryan. Limited edition of 2000 (Number 1062). The obverse depicts the 14 string Irish ‘Brian Boru’ harp with the words EIRE 2008 and the International Polar Year symbol, surrounded by a laurel wreath, a traditional symbol of excellence and integrity. The reverse features Shackleton and Crean dressed in their fur mitts and cotton gabardine overcoats with their stricken vessel ‘The Endurance’ trapped in the packed ice of Antarctica in the background.
