A wooden parallel rule. One of a set of five drawing instruments which belonged to Sir Ernest Shackleton.
Physical description:
A parallel rule consisting of two rectangular wooden strips with straight edges joined by two metal arms which allow them to move closer or further away whilst remaining parallel. Each piece of wood has an extra metal pin next to one of the arms.
