A 1/2 lb nett tin of Lipton's tea, used on Nimrod, 1907, during the British Antarctic Expedition 1907-09 (Nimrod).

Physical description:

A 1/2 lb nett tin of tea made by Lipton Ltd. It consists of a square tin covered with a coloured paper wrapper in yellow overprinted with red. All four sides of the tin, and lid, are covered in advertising slogans and images of office buildings, factory buildings and tea plantations. Text includes: ‘Lipton Ltd. The Largest Tea Coffee & Cocoa Dealers In The World’; ‘Tea Coffee & Cocoa Planters Ceylon’; ‘Tea Merchants By Special Appointment To His Majesty King Edward VII’; ‘Extra Choicest Blended Tea, Quality No 1, Half Pound Nett’; ‘Largest Sale In The World: Over One Million Packets Sold Weekly In Great Britain Alone’; ‘Chief Offices, City Rd, London’ and ‘Highest & Only Award, Chicago Exhibition, Gold Medal Paris Exhibition, Grand Prize & Gold Medal St Louis Exposition 1904.’ The paper is torn and peeling in places, but the tin appears unopened.
