The Edge of Beyond: Paintings from the Antarctic by Dafila Scott

The Edge of Beyond: Paintings from the Antarctic by Dafila Scott

15 May - 30 June 2012

Dafila Scott was artist in residence, sponsored by the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute, on the Royal Navy's Ice Patrol Vessel, HMS SCOTT in the Antarctic in February 2011. This exhibition shows some of the work arising from this trip.

Marking the centenary of her Grandfather, Captain Robert Falcon Scott's last expedition, she spent a month with HMS SCOTT, travelling down the Antarctic Peninsula. Antarctica is still the last great wilderness and, since 1961, when the Antarctic Treaty came into being, it has provided a place for peaceful co-existence and collaboration among nations in the interests of science.

The Scott Polar Research Institute has played an important part in the scientific work undertaken in Antarctica and there is much more to be done. With this in mind, Dafila's aim is to produce work which will help to convey the excitement and fascination of the Antarctic.
