Possibly frame for photograph. Made of red cotton fabric covering a stiffener. Circular hole is backed with coarsely-woven red fabric with straight opening bound with red fabric. Front is decorated with beadwork applique applied in overlaid and lazy stitch techniques on black or red cotton thread. Two downturned leaves with crossed stems are worked in opaque white beads above central hole; two upturned leaves with crossed stems are worked in opaque green beads below central hole. Circular hole is outlined with 18 x repeated clusters of three opaque white beads and two parallel rows of opaque yellow beads and bordered on each side with two vertical opaque light blue beads. Three parallel vertical rows of opaque pink beads flanked by 2 x repeated pairs of oblique rows and three triangles are worked on rectangular extension at top. Two parallel rows of opaque white beads are applied around edge. 12 loops of opaque white beads are sewn to bottom edge; loop of opaque pink beads is attached to upper edge for suspension. Structural sewing is by hand and machine. |
