medallion: A circular silver medallion, 39mm in diameter, in a circular plastic casing. The obverse shows a portrait of a smiling and bearded Norma Vaughan, wearing a hat and fur-hooded jacket and standing in front of a mountain, with his name, 'Norman D. Vaughan', written above. The reverse shows a map of Antarctica (with lines of latitude and longitude) with 'Mount Vaughan' plotted, and overlaid with an image of a man on a sledge pulled by three dogs. Around the upper circumference are the words 'Mount Vaughan Antarctic Expedition' and around the lower circumference are the words 'Austral Summer 1993–1994'. The rim is embossed with the number '09491' and engraved 'AK. MINT. 999 FINE SILVER EXPEDITION'. case: A square black case with a velvety textile covering. The lid is lined with a cream satiny textile and marked in silver with the logo of the Alaska Silver Company and the words 'ANCHORAGE, ALASKA'. The base is lined with a black velvety textile, with a hole for the medal and a notch to help remove the medal from the case. |
