Description: A cylindrical metal tin containing a thermostat and transistor. From the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition 1955-58 and part of a sledging box (Y: 59/8/4/1) containing integrating motor pneumotachograph (IMP) equipment, used for determining energy expenditure by analysing expired air to calculate oxygen consumption.

Full description:

A cylindrical metal tin with a round screw-on lid embossed 'EVANS' (Evans Medical Supplies Ltd). Inside the lid is a cork disc with a plastic coating. The side of the tin is marked 'IMP // THERMOSTAT // & // TRANSISTORS' in pen. The tin contains a glass bulb and green and red wire in a sealed plastic packet, with a paper label which is not legible.
