A plywood sledging box with a hinged lid. The hinge is made from a strip of canvas nailed in place. There are two wooden battens running cross-wise on the underside of the box. All edges of the box apart from hinge are reinforced with metal. There is a lampwick tie nailed to the lid of the box and another to the front of the box for tying the lid closed. The front of the box is painted with a red cross and is printed 'VENESTA LIMITED // VENETSA // BOKES AND BARRELS' in black; the sides are stencilled 'W' and 'EVANS // MEDICAL' in black, 'DRUGS Etc.' is written in pen; and the lid is painted with a red cross and has 'TRANS-ANTARCTIC // EXPEDITION' and '39' stencilled in black. There is a metal tag on the front with 'DR. A. F. ROGERS // TRANS-ANTARCTIC EXPN // 64 VICTORIA STREET // LONDON SWI'. Glued inside the lid of the box is a printed paper list of the contents of the box, with an item number, description, and box number. The box contains four cardboard boxes, each packed with various medical supplies.
