Y: 52/47/1: One of a pair of leather moccasins, with stitching in a natural fibre rather than sinew. It is constructed from three pieces: one for the sole and sides of the foot, one for the top of the foot and short tongue, and one for the ankle flaps. One ankle flap extends much further than the other in order to wrap around the front of the moccasin. The moccasin has two leather thongs knotted into holes on either side of the lower part, and then weaving through holes in the ankle flap – these would be wrapped around the ankle and tied to hold the moccasin in place.
