A wooden box to hold a P10 aircraft compass, for attachment to a sledge. It is made of three-ply mahogany, with a hinged lid secured with two metal hinges. The lid has been reinforced with a layer of Perspex screwed into place, and has a black plastic knob (a 20mm wide elastic band was used to hold the lid closed, but proved to be unsatisfactory). There is a metal slide connected the box and the lid, allowing the lid to be held open at a fixed angle. The box is mounted on two wooden slats so that it sits at an angle, and is attached at the front to a wooden bar, which would be fitted into clips on the handlebar uprights of the sledge.
