Description: A pair of pale yellow horsehide mittens, made by Robert Lawrie Ltd. of London. This type of mitten was supplied to the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1949 and was intended to be worn with hand-knitted woollen inner mittens.

Full description:

A pair of horse-hide mittens, pale yellow in colour with yellow stitching. Each mitten is constructed from two pieces of leather – one for the main body (seamed almost all the way round) and one for the thumb – with machine stitching in yellow thread. Each has a mustard-brown textile cuff with an elastic white drawstring with a white plastic adjustor at the top. A white textile label stitched inside the cuff of (2) reads 'ROBERT LAWRIE LTD. // LONDON, W.1.'
