Image
Accession no.: Y: 2012/20/8
Object name: Sketch
Title: Loch Fyne Sirius Station, Hold-with-Hope, North-East Greenland
Description: One of two views of huts at Loch Fyne drawn on consecutave days, the artist noted "We stayed overnight in this Hut, en route to Bunnhuset, on the eastern side of Loch Fyne. The hut, still in good condition was built by the Danish Nanok trapping company in 1945, and is now used by the Danish Sirius Patrol. I explored further north along the coast where I found basalt sills, with hexagonal columns. On the gravel spit north of the hut I was dived on aggressively by two arctic terns, though I did not discover the nest they were protecting."
Medium: Sketch
Artist: Woolmore, Ray
Note: Loch Fyne Hut (1945) on the western coast of the southern end of Loch Fyne (Hut 350 Peter Schmidt-Mikkelsen 1994.). Lat. 73° 40'N, long. 21°50' W. (Danmark-Gronland 1:250,000 Sheet 730.1 Hold-with-Hope.)
