Kongeborgen and Hammar Ø from Lyell Base Camp, North-East Greenland.

Image
Accession no.: Y: 2012/20/191
Object name: Chalk and charcoal sketch
Title: Kongeborgen and Hammar Ø from Lyell Base Camp, North-East Greenland.
Description: In undertaking this sketch, the artist used the dry interior (it was drizzling that morning) of the Sirius Hut, putting his stool on bed planks, and drawing the view from the window. The light rain hardly stopped during the day, but four of us walked to the nearby Kirschdalen gorge. The sketch shows the flat gravel area between the shore and the Camp used as the Twin Otter airstrip. Kathleen Cartwright, the leader, had established the Base Camp here late on 22 July.
Medium: Chalk and charcoal sketch
Artist: Woolmore, Ray
Note: Looking North-East up Kong Oscar Fjord, from Base Camp, by the airstrip and Sirius Hut, on eastern coast of Lyell Land. Lat. 72°32'N, long. 24°40'W. (Danmark - Gronland 1:250,000 Sheet 72 Ø.2 Kong Oscar Fjord)
