Object name: Chalk and charcoal sketch
Title: Looking W up Ravnedalen to Rechnitzer Land ice cap, Dove Bugt, NE Greenland, August 06.
Description: This sketch shows the view westwards up the deep rocky valley of Ravnedalen, culminating in the Rechnitzer Land ice-cap, at the edge of the main Greenland Ice-cap. Ventures were made up both sides of the valley to reach the ice, but the steep rocky terrain thwarted these attempts. The southern side of the valley had two periods of sun, for the morning, till midday, and then again from 4 to 8pm, when the sun came back from behind the mountain, appearing above the ice-cap.
Medium: Chalk and charcoal sketch
Artist: Woolmore, Ray
Note: About 2-3 kms west of the Arcturus Base Camp, on the ice-covered moraiine on the southern side of the seaward end of Ravnedalen, Dove Bugt. Lat. 76°19'N, long. 21°50'W. (Kalaallit Nunaat Gronland 1:100,000 Sheet 76 Ø.1 SV)
