Accession no.: Y: 2012/20/118
Object name: Chalk and charcoal sketch
Title: Myggbukta boat, Mackenzie Bay, and Giesecke Bjerge, North-East Greenland, August 2001.
Description: This view of the Bay and Giesecke Bjerge beyond became very familiar to the members of the Arcturus 2001 Myggbukta expedition, led by Kathleen and Neville Cartwright. The boat and other features clustered round the Station reflected the fact that Myggbukta was once the "capital" of "Eirik Raudes Land", the area of NE Greenland claimed by Norway from 1931-33. Only one member, Peter Roberts, of the Arcturus expedition ventured to the Giesecke Bjerge, camping there for two nights, and climbing in the mountains.
