Image
Accession no.: Y: 2012/20/10
Object name: Sketch
Title: Base Camp, Stordal, Hold-with-Hope, North-East Greenland
Description: Camping area with three men and several tents. The artist noted "I completed this sketch on our penultimate day at Stordal Base Camp, resting after our long trek back from Bunnhuset. Musk-oxen were around all day, as though they were awaiting the expedition’s departure the next day when they could reclaim their favourite grazing pastures. The fresh water stream just below the tents shown in the sketch had several relatively warm water pools, as the stream had its source on gravel terraces rather than the ice of glaciers."
