Full description:

A folding metal candle lantern with mica panels. The back panel is solid metal, with a reflective oval disc on the inside and a cheese-grater like strip on the back (perhaps for striking a match); the front and sides consist of mica panels in a metal frame. The base is metal with a central hole, and the hinged lid is also metal, with a long handle. The lantern stands on four feet, two of which are formed by the bars used to hold the lantern together. The lantern is marked 'EXCELSIOR // PATENT'.
