Description: An Adelie penguin (pygoscelis adeliae) egg. One of two housed together in a cardboard box (originally addressed to Theodore Hamblin Ltd. and with stamps dating from 1940). The egg may have been collected in 1912 (semi-legible labels on the eggs may give this date).

Full description:

An Adélie penguin (pygoscelis adeliae) egg, with a label stuck over the drilled hole, and an ink inscription written directly onto the shell. Fingerprints are visible in the dirt on the egg.
