Thigh length with attached hood. Body is made from vertical strips of sea mammal intestine with strips on the front continuing over the shoulders to the back. Sleeves are each made from same attached to dropped shoulders. Hood has U-shaped extension at the front under the chin. Centre back strip extends to form the back of the hood. Intestine around face opening is turned to the interior. Twisted tie of sea mammal intestine is threaded through casing around face opening emerging through two holes under chin. Bands of 3 narrow strips of dehaired dark brown seal skin are sewn around the neck, sides of hood, arms, sleeves, cuffs, back of shoulders, side seams and V-shaped bottom edge with black cotton thread in running stitch. 10 parallel strips of dehaired dark brown seal skin are sewn around face opening of hood; an elongated U-shaped panel decorated with 5 parallel U-shaped strips of same is attached to top of hood. Decorated on back with two vertical bands of three narrow strips of dehaired dark brown seal skin separated at the top with three horizontal strips and at bottom with five horizontal strips of same. Rectangular piece, cut to form a fringe, is attached to the bottom. Structural sewing is with sinew and beige thread; decorative strips sewn with black cotton thread. White fabric label inside front bottom edge: "Cozens" in black ink. |
