Full description: |
Man's, outer. Calf-length with back longer than front. Made of seal skin with the hair to the exterior. A 60 mm wide waistband of seal skin with the hair to exterior, backed with commercially tanned dehaired cream skin, is attached around upper edge. Two circular dark brown buttons and 7 circular cream buttons are secured to waistband with dehaired dark brown thong threaded through holes and tied on the back. Slit in skin on left side of waistband corresponds to cream button on right side for closure. Rectangular front extension is made from seal skin with the hair to the exterior. Edge of extension is bound with commercially tanned dehaired dark brown seal skin. Four vertical holes cut along upper edge are reinforced with rectangular pieces of commercially tanned dehaired dark brown seal skin on the interior and correspond to buttons on waistband. A cream (originally) canvas pocket is sewn to slit in skin on interior of each side. Dehaired dark brown seal skin is sewn to bottom of each leg to form 55 mm wide cuff. Edge is turned to the interior to form a casing. Dehaired seal skin thong is threaded through casing emerging from two holes at the back. Cream fabric label "Cozens" in black ink sewn to interior at back. Structural sewing is by hand and machine stitching with sinew and cotton thread.
