Full description: |
Harness made to fit over the forelegs and shoulders of a sled dog with joining webbing for the underside and back of the animal where it meets the trace. The harness is of brown, de-haired sealskin pieces stitched together with braided sinew, with one small area of hair remaining along the edge of one side leading toward the trace. The trace is made up of a single thong of sealskin with the epidermis removed and split at one end in order to knot to a pointed toggle of vascular material, either of bone or antler. Areas of the harness were at one stage in its past covered with woven, coloured textile in red and blue, which has subsequently degraded and come away from the sealskin.
