A cotton book jacket. It is made of two pieces of cloth stitched together, with the short edges folded over and stitched to form flaps. The front is decorated with a hand-painted art nouveau-style design of daffodils in green and yellow, a central box containing the text 'ENGLISHMEN CAN ENDURE HARDSHIP, AND MEET DEATH WITH AS GREAT A FORTITUDE AS EVER IN THE PAST.', five scrolls bearing the names of the members of the polar party, and the crest from the British Antarctic Expedition 1910-13 (Terra Nova). |
