DrillRecord: Z: 406A drill, consisting of five metal rods, a wooden handle into which the rods screw, and three drilling attachments: a drill bit; a chisel bit, used for initiating holes or clearing ice; and a sampling bit, used for extracting ice samples where a full core is not required, such as for oxygen isotope analysis. The chisel bit is marked 'C. Islep & Co. Ltd.' and the bag is marked 'N.E. Odell'. It was probably acquired in the 1950s. |
