A framed photograph of Albert Edward Wyatt, with three medals mounted beneath: (a) Polar Medal, (b) British War Medal, (c) Mercantile Marine Medal. The inscription reads: 'Albert Edward Wyatt outside Buckingham Palace with his mother, wife and son Stanley, having just received the Polar Medal from King George VI on 19th March 1942. Along with the Polar Medal below, are his 1914–1918 War Medal and Mercantile Marine Medal.' The Polar Medal has one bar (Antarctic 1929-32) and was awarded for Wyatt's role in the Discovery Expeditions 1929-32 as assistant steward on Discovery II 1929-31 and on William Scoresby 1931-32.

A set of drawing and surveying instruments made by J. Halden and Co., in a two tier case with key, which belonged to Henry J.L. Dunlop, first engineer on the British Antarctic Expedition 1907–09 (Nimrod). The set contains fourteen instruments, including a compass with extension bar and fittings, dividers, two bow compasses, three spring bows and three ivory handled ruling pens. The lower tier contains two pencils, two tubes of spare pencil lead and a pen nib.

A model (trade sample) of the single Igloo Satellite Cabin, also known as the 'apple'. It is a transportable, pre-fabricated, insulated, fibreglass cabin used extensively for remote research, particularly in Antarctica. This type of cabin was invented by Malcolm Wallhead of Kettering in the 1980s.

A 12-inch 78rpm gramophone record belonging to Fram Farrington and used at Port Lockroy in 1944 and Hope Bay in 1945. Side A is Part 1 and Side B is Part 2 of the 'Warsaw' Concerto by Richard Addinsell, piano with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Muir Mathieson. It was recorded from the film soundtrack of the RKO film 'Dangerous Moonlight'.

Camera

A Zeiss RMK large format aerial photography camera dating from the 1970s, originally designed by Zeiss for topographic mapping. The camera sits on a motorised mounting ring in a pit in the aircraft floor, and looks vertically downwards through a port in the aircraft belly. As well as for topographic mapping, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) used the aerial photography taken with this camera for geological and vegetation mapping, interpreting satellite imagery and counting populations of penguins and seals.

Maquette

Record: Y: 2013/6

A plaster maquette for the statues of Robert Falcon Scott in Waterloo Place, London (bronze); and Christchurch, New Zealand (marble). It was made by Scott's widow Kathleen and was, presumably, informed by a photograph taken by Henry Bowers at the British camp at the South Pole (refer, SPRI: P2005/5/1475) and other images from the expedition. The sculptor added a belt with a satchel containing a journal. The sculpture conveys the sense that Scott is confidently looking onwards, with the underlying message (recorded in Scott’s journal and ‘Message to the Public’) that he and his men remained resolute until the end. Text from Scott is inscribed on the plinths of both statues. The maquette was hand-modelled in clay and cast in plaster, and has a ferrous armature. Telescope

A handheld telescoping spyglass with no visible maker's mark that belonged to Charles W.R. Royds. Both the eyepiece and the surround for the objective lens are brass and the tubular body is wrapped in green, woven, wool blanket fabric that has been roughly hand stitched with cotton thread along the seam. Royds gave the telescope to his godson, Marshall May, on the passing of the latter from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

A 1:1 scale bronze statue of a husky dog wearing a traditional lampwick pulling harness and leather collar by sculptor David Cemmick, 2009. Mounted on an un-dressed York stone plinth. An inscribed bronze plaque mounted on the plinth in front of the dog records names of Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey and British Antarctic Survey dog teams from 1945 to 1993, with a dedication from 2009. A black plaque on the side of the plinth records the details of its presentation to BAS in July 2009 and the subsequent move and loan to SPRI in 2015. A second smaller black plaque gives the names of the three original custodians of the statue and BAS dog archivists.

Northern Antarctic Monument

Carved abstract, oak sculpture by Oliver Barratt comprised of two upright wooden beams each with one curved inward side, positioned to leave a central elliptical space between them. With a steel internal structure and rectangular, black metal base. Commissioned by the British Antarctic Memorial Trust to commemorate the personnel of the Royal Navy, FIDS and BAS who died in the pursuit of science in Antarctica. Unveiled at SPRI in May 2011.
