International Glaciological Society (IGS) Founded by Gerald Seligman in 1936 to provide a focus for individuals interested in practical and scientific aspects of snow and ice. Publications include Journal of Glaciology and Annals of Glaciology. Secretariat based at SPRI.
Polar Record International, peer-reviewed, scholarly journal, publishing articles in a wide variety of areas of polar research in both the Arctic and the Antarctic. Includes original primary research papers in the physical sciences, life sciences, polar technology, humanities, and social sciences, as well as papers concerning current political, economic, legal, and environmental issues. Editorial office based at SPRI; published by Cambridge University Press.
Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Interdisciplinary committee of the International Council for Science (ICSU). Charged with initiating, developing and coordinating international scientific research in the Antarctic region (including the Southern Ocean), and on the role of the Antarctic region in the Earth system. Secretariat based at SPRI.

Cambridge Quaternary Semi-informal University of Cambridge research group of people studying the Quaternary (the last 2.6 million years of geological time). Includes representatives from the departments of Geography, Plant Sciences, Earth Sciences, Archaeology and Zoology. Research areas include palaeooceanography, archaeology, geochronology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, palaeobotany, dendrochronology, micropalaeontology and palaeoecology.
International Whaling Commission Intergovernmental organisation tasked with the conservation of whales and the management of whaling. Based at Histon, Cambridge.
Polar Ocean Physics Group Research group based at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge. Studies the mechanisms by which physical processes occurring in the polar seas affect the global climate and global climatic change, and the nature and magnitude of the changes that are taking place.
