Library regulations

  • Food and drink, other than bottled water, is not permitted in library study spaces. The Friends Room can be used to eat between 1 and 2pm.
  • Please do not leave belongings unattended. Lockers are available at the library entrance.
  • The library provides quiet study spaces. The Friends Room can be used for conversations.
  • Please turn your mobile phone to silent and take all calls outside.
  • Prior permission is required for photography and filming in the library.
  • Visitors to the Institute may use the library collections for reference-only.
  • Members of the Institute wishing to take books back to their desks must fill out an 'internal loan' slip to record when books are taken out of the library. No library material should be taken out of the building. Any books recorded as an internal loan should be returned to the blue box next to the internal loan slips.
  • When you have finished using library material, please do not re-shelve the items. Either leave the books on the trolley outside the library office or on one of the desks. If you would like to reserve books on a desk, please leave them in a neat pile and fill out one of the reservation slips, indicating a date by which you will have finished with them.
  • You are welcome to scan or photocopy a limited amount of open shelf material subject to the requirements of the Copyright Act. For further information, see the copyright notice located next to the photocopier or ask library staff.
  • A separate policy applies to the use of material held in the Special Collection.

Thank you for your co-operation.
