| Abstract: | Interim report on current studies directed towards development of hard-surface airfields on blue-ice ablation areas in Antarctica. Provides record of information that has been gathered so far and gives guidelines for future efforts. Site details given for several locations including Mount Howe, Plunket Point on Mill Glacier, and Ross Ice Shelf near McMurdo station. Information presented on machines for smoothing runways and on ground facilities available. |
