Record #99760:
Electromechanical drilling in dry holes to medium depths / J. Schwander, H. Rufli.
Title: | Electromechanical drilling in dry holes to medium depths / J. Schwander, H. Rufli. |
Author(s): | Schwander, J. Rufli, H. |
Date: | 1989. |
Publisher: | [Grenoble]: [Laboratoire de Glaciologie et Géophysique de l'Environnement] |
In: | Ice core drilling : proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Ice Drilling Technology, Grenoble - France, 10-14 October 1988. (1989.), |
Abstract: | Maximum depth for ice-core drilling in dry holes is limited due to bore-hole closure by action of hydrostatic pressure and difficulty of obtaining unbroken cores. Discusses various sources of stress that act on core and consequences for design of mechanical ice-core drills. Presents latest version of mechanical drill system, which has been modified to produce better cores from greater depths. |
