Abstract: First Military Air Command (MAC) C-5B Galaxy aeroplane successfully landed on McMurdo sea-ice runway in October 1989. Largest plane operated by US is capable of carrying 118,000 kg, as well as fully assembled helicopters, and may be instrumental in speeding transport of personnel and supplies to inland areas.
