Abstract: Includes account of exploration, mapping and resource-counting projects of Peter I, 'the Great', with particular reference to Bering's Second Kamchatka Expedition. Gmelin (responsible for reporting on 'everything that concerns natural history') and Müller (responsible for describing history of Siberian peoples, including observations on their religions, village life, customs, commerce, military and political institutions, languages, costumes, etc.) provided quite different perspectives of same phenomena, and their combined recollections represent huge store of invaluable information.
