Record #98221:
Blending sequential scanning multichannel microwave radiometer and buoy data into a sea ice model / D.R. Thomas, D.A. Rothrock.
Title: | Blending sequential scanning multichannel microwave radiometer and buoy data into a sea ice model / D.R. Thomas, D.A. Rothrock. |
Author(s): | Thomas, D. R. Rothrock, D. A. |
Date: | 1989. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1989.), Vol. 94(C8) (1989) |
Abstract: | Presents method for determining concentration of open water and of several ice types using SMMR data. Uses Kalman filter and provides "best fit" to time series of data. Crucial element of procedure is physical model of how concentrations of ice types change with time in response to freezing, melting, ageing of one ice type to another, and creation of open water by divergence of ice cover. Also investigates problem of melt pond, which can cause estimates of summer ice concentrations to be too low. |
