| Abstract: | Presents answer to question: is rate of slab calving controlled by rate at which (1) bending creep produces curving shear bands, (2) shear rupture occurs along slip lines, or (3) grooves are produced by wave action? Based on data from Deception Island, Antarctica. Result is relevant to ice walls on land, on beaches or in water. |
