Seasonal variations of sea ice motion in the Transpolar Drift Stream / Mark C. Serreze, Alfred S. McLaren, Roger G. Barry.
Title: | Seasonal variations of sea ice motion in the Transpolar Drift Stream / Mark C. Serreze, Alfred S. McLaren, Roger G. Barry. |
Author(s): | Serreze, Mark C. McLaren, Alfred S. Barry, Roger G. |
Date: | 1989. |
In: | Geophysical Research Letters. (1989.), Vol. 16(8) (1989) |
Abstract: | Assessed by interpretation of drifting buoy data for 1979-85 and meteorological fields for 1960-85. Although long-term mean ice drift in stream is toward Fram Strait, three years (1979-81) with adequate drifting-buoy data coverage show reversed ice motion over 30-d periods in summer. This is response to seasonally changing wind forcing. |
Notes: | Geophysical Research Letters. Vol. 16(8) :811-814 (1989). |
Keywords: | 551.32 -- Glaciology. 551.326 -- Floating ice. 551.326.14 -- Floating ice, movement. 551.326.12 -- Floating ice, distribution, seasonal. E6 -- Glaciology: floating ice. (*60) -- Arctic Ocean and adjacent waters. (*617) -- Greenland Sea and Fram Strait. |
