| Abstract: | Describes work of Scott Polar Research Institute on sea-ice thickness as indicator of greenhouse effect, quoting Peter Wadhams' statement that US Navy will not make valuable sonar data available to researchers. This has been confirmed by spokesman for US Navy (data are classified to protect covert operation of submarines) but reply by Wadhams (ibid., Vol. 124, No. 1685, 1989, p.75) dissociates his comments from implied criticism of US Navy. |
