Record #97710:

Relations between top and bottom ice topography using a scanning sonar / Ånund Sigurd Johnsen.

Title: Relations between top and bottom ice topography using a scanning sonar / Ånund Sigurd Johnsen.
Author(s): Johnsen, Ånund Sigurd.
Date: 1989.
Publisher: Luleå: Tekniska Högskolan i Luleå
In: POAC 89 : the 10th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions. June 12-16 1989, Luleå, Sweden [Vols. 1 & 2]. (1989.), Vol.1.
Abstract: Ten ice floes in Barents Sea were mapped. All were in marginal ice zone <90 km from ice edge. Correlation between freeboard and ice thickness was studied. Previous observations of level ice yielded correlation coefficients of 0.8. Present measurements gave values of 0.7 for multiyear, partly deformed ice and 0.5 for first-year, very deformed ice. Differences may be due to effects of thermodynamic processes, isostatic relaxation and deformation processes.
