Abstract: Describes tests undertaken in Arctic after preliminary tests in cold room with S2 model ice. Objectives were: to establish capability of impact test rig, transducers selected, and other instruments at -5 to -40°C; to determine global and local peak loads and rise times in transient phase of sea-ice impact; aand to examine nature of brittle failure of sea ice on impact.
