Methods for sea ice impact testing / S.N. Chin, P.J. Hackett.
Title: | Methods for sea ice impact testing / S.N. Chin, P.J. Hackett. |
Author(s): | Chin, S. N. Hackett, P. J. |
Date: | 1989. |
Publisher: | Ottawa, Ontario: National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research |
In: | National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research. Technical Memorandum. (1989.), Vol. 144 (1989) |
Abstract: | Describes tests undertaken in Arctic after preliminary tests in cold room with S2 model ice. Objectives were: to establish capability of impact test rig, transducers selected, and other instruments at -5 to -40°C; to determine global and local peak loads and rise times in transient phase of sea-ice impact; aand to examine nature of brittle failure of sea ice on impact. |
Notes: | National Research Council of Canada. Associate Committee on Geotechnical Research. Technical Memorandum. Vol. 144 :131-134 (1989). |
Keywords: | 624.145.1 -- Floating ice, thrust. 551.32 -- Glaciology. 551.326 -- Floating ice. 539.3 -- Ice, mechanical properties. E3 -- Glaciology: instruments and methods. |
