Record #97352:

A numerical classification of glaciers in China by means of glaciological indices at the equilibrium line / Zuming Lai, Maohuan Huang.

Title: A numerical classification of glaciers in China by means of glaciological indices at the equilibrium line / Zuming Lai, Maohuan Huang.
Author(s): Lai, Zuming.
Huang, Maohuan.
Date: 1989.
Publisher: Wallingford: Institute of Hydrology, IAHS Press
In: Snow Cover and Glacier Variations. Proceedings of an International Symposium held during the Third Scientific Assembly of International Association of Hydrological Sciences at Baltimore, Maryland, USA, 10-19 May 1989. (1989.),
Abstract: New principle of classification is proposed in which glaciers are classified by means of glaciological indices at equilibrium line. Fuzzy-cluster analysis is conducted as initial classification phase. Stepwise discriminatory analysis is employed to select indices and then initial classification is verified. Finally, with addition of new samples, stepwise discriminatory analysis is conducted again according to selected dominant indices. Combining these two numerical classifications, 22 glaciers are classified in China as polar, continental (subpolar) and maritime (temperate) types.
