Abstract: Energy balance climate model coupled to sea-ice model is used to investigate potential of several hypotheses in explaining Younger Dryas event: (1) low-salinity meltwater lens from ablation of ice sheets, which would have caused more extensive sea ice; (2) increased iceberg production in North Atlantic from collapse of ice shelves; (3) reduction of rate of formation of North Atlantic Deep Water; and (4) reduction in atmospheric CO₂ concentration.
