Record #97139:
Glacial-marine sedimentation and Quaternary glacial history of Marguerite Bay, Antarctic Peninsula / Douglas S. Kennedy, John B. Anderson.
Title: | Glacial-marine sedimentation and Quaternary glacial history of Marguerite Bay, Antarctic Peninsula / Douglas S. Kennedy, John B. Anderson. |
Author(s): | Kennedy, Douglas S. Anderson, John B. |
Date: | 1989. |
In: | Quaternary Research. (1989.), Vol. 21(2) (1989) |
Abstract: | Area is well-situated to study specific scenarios of Late Wisconsin ice-sheet expansion and local nature of ice-sheet advance and retreat. Reconstruction based on seismic reflection data and piston cores obtained in 1985 and 1986. Reconstruction of glacial history since last glacial maximum shows grounded ice filling bay during Late Wisconsin. Rising sea level caused uncoupling of ice sheet and slow retreat of ice shelf throughout Holocene. |
Notes: | Quaternary Research. Vol. 21(2) :255-276 (1989). Antarctic issue, based on Symposium on the Antarctic Ice Sheet and the Southern Ocean held at the 12th Congress of the International Union for Quaternary Research in Ottawa, Canada, on 8 August 1987. |
