Abstract: Importance of glacial geological investigations in ore exploration is discussed on basis of experiments made in Finland. Regularities controlling dispersal of glacially derived rock fragments have been found to be connected with large-scale glacial dynamics and with genesis of glacial deposits and their landforms. Flow directions of Scandinavian ice sheet in Finland have been reconstructed with aid of observations of striae and till fabric, satellite imagery of depositional landforms, and direction of boulder trains. Areal variability of glacial transport distance for boulder fraction has been estimated by compiling data of 111 transport distance distribution determinations, 41 half-distance measurements, and length-distribution of 464 boulder trains.
