Record #97108:

Origin of a till-like diamicton by shearing / Hans-Jürgen Stephan.

Title: Origin of a till-like diamicton by shearing / Hans-Jürgen Stephan.
Author(s): Stephan, Hans-Jürgen.
Date: 1989.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Genetic classification of glacigenic deposits. Final report of the Commission on Genesis and Lithology of Glacial Quaternary Deposits of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA). (1989.),
Abstract: Produced by dragging and mixing of different grain sizes along shear horizon in pro- or subglacial position with no material added by glacier. Differs in character and origin from comminution till, defined as till-like sediment resulting from crushing and abrasion of detritus dragged along under moving glacier. Term "shear till" is proposed for diamictons originating by pure shear.
Notes:

In: Genetic classification of glacigenic deposits. Final report of the Commission on Genesis and Lithology of Glacial Quaternary Deposits of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) / Richard P. Goldthwait, Charles L. Matsch, eds.
