Abstract: | Simple models, requiring minimal input data can provide preliminary age-depth profiles over period of few ka, accurate enough to choose frequency of sampling along ice cores. With regard to precise dating of environmental records from glaciers and ice sheets over longer time spans, dating solely by ice-flow modelling is not advisable. However, method is not useless, since comparison of calculated and experimentally determined ages will throw light on climatic and dynamic history of ice masses and thus will contribute to interpretation of environmental records obtained from glaciers and ice sheets. |
